WE ARE AN URBAN INN

Benton Park Inn

Benton Park Inn

Many people, when they think about bed and breakfasts, picture bucolic, quiet, country settings with all of the amenities of rural or small-town life. For example, in Missouri, there are a couple of dozen of inns located along the Missouri Weinstrasse and the Katy trail, from St. Charles westward to Hermann.

In contrast, the Benton Park Inn is very much in an urban environment. Created by St. Louis City ordinance in 1866, Benton Park retains much of the character it acquired throughout the nineteenth century. Many German immigrants arrived here during that time, and many – if not most – of the homes retain their original architectural details.

So what does this mean for our guests?

  • There are many interesting restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance.
  • We’re conveniently located to four interstate highways.

But there can be challenges for those who aren’t accustomed to city living:

  • Make sure to secure your vehicle and its contents.
  • During the nighttime hours, there is still traffic, an occasional siren, or dogs.

The Benton Park Inn is in a house built originally as a 4-apartment dwelling in 1895. While the building has been renovated, the fact is that this is our home. There can be some interior noises as well, not unlike most people’s homes.

An advantage of staying at a bed and breakfast instead of a big downtown hotel or a motel on the interstate is that we work at treating every guest as a member of our family. That means if you have a need, just ask us. If you have a concern, let us know. And when you leave, don’t forget to let us know how your stay was.

And thank you for staying at the Benton Park Inn.

THE INNKEEPER

Dan as teachinngDan Kelly established the Benton Park Inn with his husband and partner Douglas Nissing in 2013. Doug passed away before we could open. I am delighted to carry on our dream, excited to share our hospitality and the City of St. Louis with our guests.

When I am not running the inn, I spend a few hours a week as a teaching artist. With different area schools, I combine theatre and science into dynamic/hands-on classroom programs.

Dan as ShakespeareSt. Louis is an incredible city for those interested in theatre, art, music, and so much more. I’m trilled to have made it my home. I look forward to making my home, your home when you visit.

THE DOGS

Rosie
ROSIE

The latest member of the Benton Park Inn family is Rosie. All guests loved Bella. Most guests loved Gerite. Rosie is a recue sweetheart who loves everyone especially other dogs. She joined the family May 17th 2021 soon after we lost Gertie. She was abandoned and neglected. We looked into each other’s eyes, and we both knew she had found her forever home. I made a short before and after video celebrating her new life. It went viral. See the link below.
